Victoria’s Diner opens.

January 3, 1949

Operated by George Georgenes, it is located at 1024 Massachusetts Avenue. Initially a 52-seat stainless steel “Jerry O’Mahony” diner, it is taken over by George’s sons, Nick and Charlie, in 1956. They add a two-section “Swingle” diner in 1965, and another dining-room in 1975. Regular customers include Massachusetts senate president William Bulger, Boston mayor Ray Flynn, and Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler. The restaurant is purchased by Jay Hajj in 2004, and by Damian Sheree and family in 2011.
